"I'm fortunate to have jorginho", says Lampard
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted he is 'fortunate' to have midfielder Jorginho as his disposal – with the Italian appearing to have finally endeared himself to supporters.
The 27-year-old had been much maligned last season for consistently below-par performances and often suffered the brunt of abuse from the club's disgruntled fan base.
But the Brazil-born star appears to have shaken off his stuttering start at Stamford Bridge, and boss Lampard has lavished praise on an integral member of his side.
He told Sky Sports: 'What I see in Jorginho is a quality of pass and I want to see him use his range.
'He played some great through-balls against Liverpool and I know he can do it. He can do what's asked of him and he is eager to do it.
'I love his spirit, how he trains and how he plays. I keep going on about that but it's infectious and it's important.'
After a dominating display in the Blues' maiden Premier League victory at Norwich last weekend, the Chelsea away contingent could be heard chanting Jorginho's name.
But just a few months ago, the Italian had been heavily criticised for failing to influence games from his deep-lying midfield position.
The fractured relationship between the player and club's supporters was also made worse by the stubbornness of ex-manager Sarri.
The 60-year-old tactician, now at the helm of Juventus, persisted with fielding Jorginho in the anchor position typically filled by fan favourite N'Golo Kante. As a result, the Frenchman was shunted into a more unfamiliar position.
But Sarri's successor, Lampard, admitted he has been impressed with Jorginho's quality.
He added: 'I watched him last year and I thought he finished the season really well but you only really know a player when you see them day in and day out.
'From the first day of training he showed me instantly his quality and his attitude.
'I am actually fortunate to have Jorginho.'
