Frank Lampard decided to sell luiz after the defender flaunted his orders in a preseason game.
Frank Lampard acted decisively to offload David Luiz to Arsenal - and one key moment reportedly spelt the end of his Chelsea career.
The experienced centre-back completed a £8million move to Chelsea's London rivals on deadline day in a deal which came out of the blue.
But The Athletic claim Lampard's decision was made after Luiz chose to ignore his tactics during a pre-season friendly against Red Bull Salzburg.
Lampard is reported to have told his defenders to play out from the back patiently, but he was dismayed by a number of ambitious long balls attempted by Luiz which went against what he had asked him to do.
It proved the moment which led Lampard to sanction the sale of Luiz to their Premier League rivals, a move which was criticised by some but highlight the courage of his convictions.
Until that point, the Brazilian had featured regularly in pre-season only to be dropped for their next game against Borussia Monchengladbach and be sold shortly afterwards.
