Frank Lampard and Jody Morris told the senior Chelsea players to step up after back-to-back defeats to Valencia & Liverpool
Chelsea’s reaction to back-to-back defeats by Valencia then Liverpool comes after Frank Lampard and his assistant Jody Morris strategically put pressure on their senior players.
The pair called on the more experienced members of their squad, including Willian and Pedro, to step up and stop leaving it to the youngsters to secure wins.
Since those meetings, in which both Lampard and Morris aired their frustrations, Chelsea have clinched four successive wins in all competitions — scoring 15 goals and conceding just three.
Willian, Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley have all got off the mark for the season since Chelsea’s hard-fought 2-1 home loss to Liverpool on September 22.
The Blues bosses feel they cannot rely on their young guns alone if they are to finish inside the top four. That is despite Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount’s blistering starts.
Lampard wants his established stars to pull their weight, too. Olivier Giroud has not had much of an opportunity, however, with the prolific Abraham keeping him out of the team.
