Willian and Pulisic under pressure to deliver

Frank Lampard admits that Willian and Christian Pulisic are under pressure to deliver at Chelsea following the departure of Eden Hazard, but they are not the only ones being asked to step up.

The Blues saw a talismanic figure leave for Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.

There is plenty of firepower still at Stamford Bridge, with United States international Pulisic having been added to the pot following a big-money move from Borussia Dortmund.

He is among those to have chipped in with important goals, after coming through a slow start to his time in England, but Chelsea are looking to counter the loss of one individual with greater collective contribution.

Lampard told Sky Sports when asked if the sale of Hazard puts more pressure on Pulisic and Willian: “It does and not just them, (Mateo) Kovacic is one to mention as well because he's taken up all of those roles and been really good for us this year.

“The biggest gripe we would have with ourselves is that if you look at our season, in lots of games, we see a lot of the ball and have control in certain games.

“Then you look at how clinical you were in certain areas where football is won and lost. We've been giving away goals we're not happy with at times, but I think in modern Premier League football, it's getting harder to keep clean sheets.

“If we are creating and getting balls into the box, the longer you don't take those chances, you give the other team the feeling that they're in the game and I think that's part of the reason for the recent losses that we've had.”
